What is Knee Arthritis?Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common cause of arthritis and a major public health problem. It was first thought of as simply ‘wear and tear’ affecting cartilage within joints but more recent studies have shown it to be a bit more complex than this.
Sufferers of Knee OA usually complain of pain on the inside of their knee which causes stiffness in the morning or after sitting long periods and pain on walking distances or running. X-Rays can be taken but are unnecessary to diagnose this condition. At Physioimpulse our team of expert therapists specialise in knee joint assessments and can identify the cause of your pain and provide a rehabilitation plan. Injections also help 'lubricate the joint and relieve pain making it easier to carry our your exercises and day to day tasks |
Knee Arthritis Injection Therapy in BathAt Physioimpulse we provide knee injections in conjunction with Physiotherapy treatment to optimise recovery from injury and reduce pain in degenerative conditions such as Knee Osteoarthritis and meniscal tears.
Injections are performed by our Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist Matt Shepherd who has undertaken extensive Post Graduate training in order to carry out injections at our Bath injection Clinics. Matt has also undertaken training in Ultrasound Scanning to enable him to guide injections using an ultrasound machine if required. Alongside his work at Physioimpulse, Matt also carries out specialist knee clinics at a local orthopaedic hospital with a number of top local surgeons giving him an excellent insight into optimal knee treatment. |
Ostenil Plus InjectionsOstenil® is a treatment for the symptoms of osteoarthritis and other joint and tendon pain. It can be used in the knee, shoulder or in any of the other joints in the body that are classified as ‘synovial’. It has similar benefits to corticosteroid injections but with less side effects.
How does it work? Ostenil® is a solution containing hyaluronic acid (your joint's natural lubricator). It is injected into the space in the joint that contains synovial fluid and works by restoring the normal balance of hyaluronic acid decreasing pain and stiffness and improving the other symptoms of osteoarthritis. It can also be used for Frozen shoulder and shoulder impingement, tennis elbow and other injuries to reduce pain and aid rehabilitation. What can I expect if I decide to have an injection with Ostenil®? Ostenil will be injected directly into the joint or area affected by pain. It may take a number of days to take effect but then symptoms can improve for up to 12 Months. Once the effects of the first injection wears off, you can, if you choose, have another. Are there any side effects? The hyaluronic acid in Ostenil® is very pure and is manufactured using a process called fermentation. It contains no animal proteins, which means that it is very unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Ostenil® has been given to thousands of patients and has not been found to cause any serious side effects. Do you use ultrasound scanning to guide injections? Yes! Injections can be carried out using bony landmarks and anatomic knowledge to locate the site to be injected or Ultrasound scanning can be used to visualise the area in real time. Matt has trained in Ultrasound guided injections as they have been shown to be more accurate than landmark guided injection thus ensuring optimal outcomes. |
Cingal InjectionsCingal® is an advanced combination of a hyaluronic acid (HA) and a fast-acting corticosteroid injection, developed to target joint pain caused by osteoarthritis and other degenerative conditions.
How does it work? Hyaluronic acid acts as a lubricant and shock absorber, improving joint mobility and comfort. Corticosteroids provide immediate anti-inflammatory relief, helping to reduce swelling and pain in the affected joint. This dual-action formula not only addresses your current symptoms but also promotes better joint health for the future. Who Can Benefit from Cingal? Cingal is ideal for individuals experiencing:
What to Expect from the Procedure The injection process is quick, minimally invasive, and performed under ultrasound guidance to ensure accuracy and comfort. The injection is performed in-clinic and typically takes less than 30 minutes. Post-Treatment Care You’ll receive advice on managing your activity levels post-injection. Many patients experience immediate relief, with long-term benefits developing over a few weeks. |

So glad I found Matt to help with my knees. I have arthritis in both knees after having a number of arthroscopies and was written off as needing knee replacements. Matt listened to all my concerns, was honest and gave me some great advice on rehab to carry out after the injections which gave me fantastic relief from my pain for 9 months.
