What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy or 'Physio' is a health care profession which emphasises the use of physical approaches in the prevention and treatment of disease and disability. It is a systematic method of assessing musculoskeletal disorders including pain and loss of function. Our therapists will work with you to reduce pain, improve mobility and reduce the effects of disability or injury using a range of physical agencies.
What will happen during my first visit?
A detailed history of your complaint will be taken and with your consent an in depth physical examination will enable your therapist to diagnose your problem and devise a treatment plan to effectively aid your recovery.
Do I need a GP referral?
No GP referral is necessary for physiotherapy treatment. Your GP may be informed of treatment unless otherwise directed.
How long will my appointment last?
30 minutes
How many treatments will I need?
An average course of treatment may entail 5 or 6 treatment sessions, however every case is assessed individually and will be discussed on your first visit. Should no improvement be seen after 4 sessions our therapists work closely with local GPs and Consultants and will be happy to organise appropriate onward referral should they deem it necessary.
What qualifications do you have?
All our Chartered Physiotherapists are highly trained professionals who have completed a 3-4 yr Bsc (Hons) Degree in Physiotherapy. Each Physiotherapist is registered individually with the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and the Health Professions Council (HPC) and adhere to strict codes of conduct and a programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) which keep their skills up to date, evidence based and clinically reasoned.
